I like to share one of our Christmas traditions with you. Hans and I used to make a candy house with lots of colorful candies and chocolate cookies for St. Nicholas Day. Hans would built the house and frame it with double sided edible wafers, so when the children would break off a candy, it had no traces of clue on it. to make this candy house would take us roughly two weeks or maybe more. we were still employed and only had time in the evenings and we took turns. every single candy had to be glued on with boiling hot icing sugar. to fill in the crevices, we used a tweezer to hold on to the candy. without it, we would burn our fingers. the icing sugar "glue" is made of icing sugar and a few drops of water, brought to a boil on a tea candle. so every few minutes it had to be renewed. this is very time consuming. when Britney was 5 and Grant 3, they liked to help. some of my earlier friends on 365 have seen a picture of them in front of the finished candy house. now that our grandchildren are all grown, we'll have to wait for our great grandchildren.
You have me mesmerized looking at the candy house! I love it so much! And I love your story of making it. I can't believe you spent so much time on it. Truly a work of love!
Bruni, this is so special. I love the colors, and this is the best use of picmonkey's candy-cane frame I've seen. But the best part is your story of family tradition and love. What a gift to the younger generations!
Do you eat them ? It`s beautiful made and very creative. . Great tradition.
A true story : My Dad did sale Christmas trees at Christmas. My dear mother confiscate a nice one for our one use. . When she wanted to decorate it all the trees where sold out even hers. She get that angry my Dad did have to get a new one and drove at least 25 miles /two hours to have one as there were n`t many available any more .
My goodness that is so colorful! And sugary!! What a labor of love you two took on. I'm sure those houses will be remembered long after the sugar highs wear off!
Wow, this is so amazing, Bruni. Love your story and all the hard work you and Hans put into this for your kids. Such a wonderful piece of art and labor of love. I love your photo of it too. FAV
That's an incredible house! So beautiful and colourful. Is there a local children's hospital or anywhere you could make one for? Or a charity you could donate one for to auction off? I've seen far less impressive cakes raising a lot of money here when auctioned for charity.
Thanks dear Bruni for you very nice explanation of you tradition. My Mother did always pastry/and sweets rings for decoration in the tree. We where supposed to not eat them before Christmas day .
