In the Holland Marsh by bruni

In the Holland Marsh

We've an area here called the Holland Marsh, it is known for their rich and fertile soil. it's very close to where I took the pictures of the heron nest- area over the last few years. so when we went to take pictures of the devestation at the swamp area this year, we also went further up the street to where the Holland Marsh area begins.

In case one doesn't know why plastic sheeting is stretched over the field, please read on.

After seeding and watering the farmers stretch some plastic sheeting over the seedlings and seal it all around. during the day, as the sun shines it warmth the soil. some moisture, which condensates on to the plastic und when the temperature cools down at night, the water drips down and keeps he soil moist. after the seedlings come up, the plastic gets removed and Mother Nature takes over.

picture will as taken June 1st.
How interesting and simple! Good use of the swamp or marsh!

I was forming a question about the plastic sheeting in my head before I finished reading your description. I've seen this done in our area several years ago in the strawberry field near us. Unfortunately the guy quit planting the strawberries. Nice informative narrative.

It also can be by the flat country. Those plastic sheeting are often use in our country too. To get an earlier start.
