This is my last posting here in Florida. we're flying home tomorrow.
In the evening when we're going for a walk here at the resort, we hear the Music of the South in the trees. (the mating song of the cicada)
Here is some info from google:
The cicadas live for 17 years underground and all of a sudden in two days all of them emerge and up on trees.
While on trees, they shed their outer skin and emerge in adult form.
The males make a buzzing sound to attract the females.
After fertilization, the females lay their eggs while still on the tree. 6 to 8 weeks later, the eggs hatch.
and then the hatchlings drop off the branches and burrow into the ground, never to be seen for another 17 years.
We feel privileged to have been here at the right time to listen to the Song of the Cicadas.
