Last Sunday, Grace and I went to Edwards Garden in Toronto where we saw an exhibition of Zimbabwean Art.
Every piece of art is made out of a single stone. once collected, the artist decides what he's going to carve out of it.
The Stone: Springstone
Artist: Winston Nyekete
Price: $ 15,200
The majority of stones used in Zimbabwean sculpture are locally sourced and belong to the geological family of Serpentine. Intense heat and pressure over hundreds of millions of years has transformed them into hard stone. Serious sculptors prefer the hardest varieties such as Springstone. Dense stones have extremely fine grains and uniform structure, making them ideal raw materials for sculpting.
More information about this exhibition you'll see in my next picture.
