summer bulb

I went out into the garden this evening to find some inspiration for a photo. I found this little bulb just beginning to show it's colour. Can anyone help me to identify it?

Thanks for all your comments. I get a buzz out of reading them all - thanks for taking the time. I did try some processing here and enhanced the colour a little, it seems to have worked!

Beautiful! And funny too, with those colours half way down the bulb. I hope you'll take another photo when the flowers come out?

@omzwervingen Actually I think that is how it flowers, only the whole thing will turn purple. It's only a very small 'flower', about one inch across.
