'She was home, amongst the mayor's books of every colour and description, with their silver and gold lettering. She could smell the pages. She could almost taste the words as they stacked up around her.' A quote from The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
We ate at Zizzi's in Cambridge yesterday and there were these amazing shelves of old books, mostly in pristine condition. We couldn't help dipping into a few of them. Sadly they weren't for sale. I'm busy reading The Book Thief at the moment, and thought this quote was very appropriate.
Lovely heart warming photo! And I've just started 'The Book Thief' too! It may be some time before I get through it though......school reporting time and lots of other reading too. I love all the red books together. I used to do that when I was young.....I knew exactly where to find any title as I knew the colour of the book as well as the titles. And my daughter has just done that in her flat in Edinburgh......her flat mate isn't so sure if it's a good system....yet!
I think those must be new as I don't remember seeing them there before - a good excuse for another trip! I loved The Book Thief - a really interesting perspective on some very brave people.
