Lyttleton harbour by busylady

Lyttleton harbour

This small harbour was the epicentre of the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. We walked over the top into Lyttleton and from a distance it was impossible to see any damage. However, as we got closer, we could see that foundations had shifted and cracked, properties were boarded up and abandoned. So sad to see and so much work to do.In my other album there is a picture of the police station being demolished. The harbour was lively and piled up high with logs waiting for transportation. We found a great 'fish and chippery' for lunch.
Really enjoying your shots and commentary. Another super capture.

Must have been very scary. Great view of the mountains behind.

nice shot, lots of nice details. I like the contrast of the foreground harbour with the scenic mountains and sky in the background.

THe two photos together convey the scale of the damage and the more intimate side. Very unnerving and well documented.
