These ceramic poppies are a poignant reminder of the loss of life in the Great War. The last poppy was put in place today to remember the 888,246 soldiers who died in World War 1. All wars are a tragic waste of life but this one more so than any. All of the poppies have been sold and tomorrow some of them will begin their journey to those people who have bought one, perhaps in memory of a loved one.
This whole display has been so poignant. From the planning through to today. A most humble yet spectacular tribute to all those who lost their lives. For my own part Great Uncles George and Reg.
This is lovely. I wish I'd been able to see it all for myself but I have bought one of the poppies so I'm looking forward to seeing it when it arrives.
My grandfather was one of the fortunate soldiers who returned from the First World War......thankfully, or I wouldn't be here!
@dizzyd We walked all the way round and at this point there was another level above where everyone was standing. I like this view because it showed all the people.
I like that you have included the people. Seen so many many photos of this very moving installation, but that aspect of yours stands out. Wish I had been able to see it in person.
