These flower buds are about 3 or 4 inches tall
My flowers are usually white
I'm a tree not native to Britain although I am a very familiar sight
In the Autumn my fruits will fall as green spiny shells eagerly awaited by children everywhere
Yes, definitely horse chestnut. Remember my son collecting lots of conkers and then me finding them rotting in the garage the following spring. Isn't nature amazing?!
@julzmaioro These are horse chestnuts not sweet chestnuts. We used to call them conkers and play the game of conkers with them when we were kids. We used to drive a hole through the middle of the conker with a hot metal rod, then put a string through. With a knot tied in the end to prevent the conker from falling off we would dangle the conker and the other player would try to knock your conker off the string, or indeed break it in half. Great fun but I was no good at it. The game is now banned in school playgrounds due to 'health and safety'.
