We've been away for a few days in France, staying with friends. We visited the military cemetery in Etaples, near Boulogne, the largest commonwealth war graves commission cemetery in France. There are over 10.000 soldiers buried here from WWl and also some from WW2. The town of Etaples was the site of 16 military hospitals and the cemetery was designed by Edward Lutyens. It's a very sobering place and yet a beautifully kept memorial to these brave men. You may be able to see the details on the inset picture showing the headstones of three soldiers who died exactly one hundred years ago.
