Terracotta Warriors by busylady

Terracotta Warriors

We went to Xi-an by train and spent a very interesting morning viewing this incredible museum. This is Pit 1 where the majority of the reconstructed soldiers are sited. Built in 210 BC They were discovered by a farmer here in 1974 having been protected with a wooden roof covered in earth. Over the years the wooden roof had collapsed. They were said to have been built to protect the Emperor in his afterlife.
Absolutely amazing. We had a talk about the terracotta warriors this week at our local U3A, so interesting. I have seen the warriors when the exhibition came to Sydney but it would be amazing to see them in situ. fav

You, too! We went a few weeks ago. Too bad we weren't there together :) There's a small set of them traveling in Chicago at the Field Museum through Jan 8 so we are planning to visit them here as well. I like how your capture shows all the people along the side, showing how important these warriors are to tourism.
