Auberge Ravoux

We visited Auvers-sur-Oise, just North of Paris and home to Vincent Van Gogh for his last 70 days. He rented a room here and spent his last days painting many scenes in the town. The Auberge has been restored to represent the 1890's and is open for lunch and dinner on certain days. It was closed as we passed but this table seems to remain outside as an invitation. The museum behind the Auberge shows the attic room he rented with its single skylight. It was never rented out again after he died, a tragic tale indeed. He relied heavily on his brother Theo and confided in him "Someday or other, I believe I will find a way to have my own exhibition in a cafe". If only he could have known!
A delightful and well maintained restaurant the area seeped in the history of such an artist ! as you say -if only he knew !

How interesting. Van Gogh's life facinates me. I'll bet it changed a bit since his day. THis is very neatly kept building.

Its really rather beautiful with the wood colours and the lacy curtains! Poor old Gogh - if only he'd known - as you say!
