Thankful! by busylady

Thankful!

We almost had a house fire on Monday. This chair in the living room was beside a window where a reading lamp was positioned behind it. The sun must have been shining on the magnifier and caused the quilt over the chair to burn. It was frightening how quickly the flames grew. We were outside at the time and Peter rushed in and bravely grabbed the chair by the arms and threw it outdoors. His quick thinking saved the curtains from going up, otherwise we would have had a major fire on our hands. As it was we will claim for a new carpet, two chairs, a new lamp and a few smaller items. We are so lucky not to be hurt and thankful to our amazing neighbours who rallied round with fire extinguishers, water, cups of tea, and sympathy. 3 good things - 1) good neighbours 2) quick thinking husband 3) tea and kind words. Oh and 4) I saved the two teddies and the patchwork cushion from the burning chair! )
Wow! That's wonderful that he was able to act so quickly!

Oh my goodness Judith, that was a close scrape. Who would have thought that could happen? So glad you were both there at the time and Peter was able to react as he did. I hope he's ok - no burns and no damage to the new knee!

@jamibann thank you yes he's fine, no burns at all, but think he was suffering the next day. Perhaps from the quick dash and also from smoke inhalation. The smoke was very thick everywhere.

Oh my word Judith I had to scroll back to see what had happened....quick thinking from Peter & him with a new knee...it’s working well thank goodness then!
Magnifying glasses can certainly cause things to heat up! Glad all ok.

@happypat I think the leap over the front step with the burning chair took it's toll and also the toxic fumes which caused him to struggle for breath for a while. I guess you just react to the situation and don't really think, there just isn't time
