Great Northern Railroad

GNR first cam to the Republic area in 1902 to supply the mines, bring building supplies, haul ore to Canadian smelters and transport students to college and shoppers to Spokane. Once Republic's main link to the outside world, Kettle Falls International Railway, the most recent railroad company running on the line, filed to abandon the railroad corridor on June 23, 2006, and successfully railbanked by Ferry County in 2009.
