Back in the early 1970's there was a book called "I Am Third" by Gale Sayers that was turned into a movie called "Brian's Song". Gale Sayers said, "The Lord is first; my family and friends are second; and I am third." Those words profoundly influenced my life. This true story is about his friendship with fellow football player, Brian Piccolo. Brian died of cancer, and the movie closes with the words, "He also left a great many loving friends who miss him and think of him often. But, when they think of him, it's not how he died that they remember but, rather, how he LIVED... how he DID live!"
The theme song from the movie is "The Hands of Time"... here are some of the lyrics...
"If the hands of time were hands that I could hold,
I'd keep them warm and in my hands, they'd not turn cold.
Hand in hand we'd choose the moments that would last,
the lovely moments that should have no future and no past.
The summer from the top of a swing,
the comfort in the sound of a lullaby,
the innocence of leaves in the spring,
but most of all the moment when love first touched me.
All the happy days would never learn to fly,
until the hands of time would choose to wave good-bye..."
I guess I am feeling the years pass far too quickly, the need to make the moments count, make changes that matter. So here's to a fresh start in 2013! (Maybe I am just getting cabin fever and thinking far too deeply!)
(Note to Deanna, this is the clock I purchased from your Dad.)

Oh Cathy. What is it about the passing of the actual year that brings so many of us to think of how our lives are flying by? My Mother always said that time passed faster the older you got and she was so right on that one. I'm happy, mostly healthy and really not complaining. I don't mind the gray hair, am getting accustomed to the wrinkles. But I am having too darn much fun for it to be over.
That was one of my favorite movies and I know I'd be in tears again today if I watched it. This is a lovely, warm shot. I love old clocks, also. Daughter of a horologist.
@cdonohoue Your mother was so right! Reflecting on the passing year has really gotten to me this year. I don't want to waste my life. And you're telling your age if you remember the movie, too! Your daughter is in an interesting field... I had to look up 'horologist'. The only other old clock I have is a mantle clock that belonged to my grandparents... I've tried to photograph it several times but the reflections are impossible! Thanks for the lengthy comment and for the fav!
I am going to have to look into reading that book. I love your words today, Cathy. Wonderful image too. The composition, and lighting is great. I love the tones.
Gorgeous pov ... I really identify with your comment, Cathy. I have the same feelings that you do about the coming year. I too remember the movie and always get teary eyed when I think about it. Beautiful words and song. FAV.
Gorgeous and also very interesting story. It is right, sometimes time flies -specially when we're having fun- and some other moments, it seems endless. It is also right, whenever the holidays are near, people seems to pay attention to this fact even more. Your photo keeps this truth.
Love the perspective and tone! I am so blessed by reading all those words! So often I am bad to skim because I am in a hurry but I was rewarded especially the end! Thanks!
I love the photo! You captured it just perfectly with the sepia tones. It looks so old! Beautiful words and I so agree with you. Time just passes by way too quickly! Fav.
Awesome! I have a bit of an unhealthy obsession with antique timepieces! Therefore, even ignoring the fact that this picture is amazing, I love this regardless! That being said, though, this picture is amazing!
@jsw0109 I know that photographers don't want to hang someone else's work on their wall, but I would be happy to humor you... for your birthday and all....
@calm I disagree... there are shots of Jerry's @orangecrush , Paul's @jonesp , Michael's @michaelelliott and Amy's @aspada that I would love to have in my home.... and THIS shot of yours.
@jsw0109 There aren't enough walls in my house to print all the photos I would like to print of other 365ers, but I consider them REAL photographers, not amateurs like me. I just point and shoot. But you can e-mail me if you want a print... cathyannmc2@gmail.com ... I'd be happy to send it to you for your birthday!
Oh I recall that movie! So sad! Time is flying by faster and faster. It needs to slow up! Maybe your special clock, can do that for us? :0) fav! Congrats on the pp
You know, I've decided you really don't need a new camera! How can you get a better close up than this? And your landscapes are awesome too. I read a comment somewhere that said a better camera does not make you a better photographer. You've got a talent, girl, and taking great pictures like this with your little camera proves it! I bought a Canon Rebel T3, by the way, and so far my photos aren't any better! :-)
