I guess the praying mantis is an appropriate insect to photograph for a Sunday... the praying mantis got its name from the way it folds its front legs as if praying... thankful today for the privilege of prayer.
Fantastic macro. Praying mantis have always impressed me because in Costa Rica they call it "Maria seca" (dried Mary = translation) and when I was a child my cousins scared me saying that if the Mantis bit me, and was going to get dry... LOL.
Excellent up close and personal mantis shot! I didn't even realize we have them in our area until I saw one last year. Either they hide well or just don't like me. ;)
@kass They are usually hard to spot, as they usually just blend in with the foliage around them... I have seen both green and brown mantis. This one was on my burgandy colored Japanese maple for the last few weeks, but I caught him over on the stone wall... his bright green color contrasted nicely to the stone.
@anazad511 That is funny! But there is something sweet about the innocence of childhood, even if we didn't quite get it right! Thanks for telling me about your memories!
