"Sittin' on the front porch on a summer afternoon,
in a straight-backed chair on two legs,
leaned against the wall,
I watched the kids a-playin'
with junebugs on a string
and chase the glowin' fireflies
when evenin' shadows fall.
While honeysuckle vines cling
to the fence along the lane,
their fragrance makes the summer wind so sweet.
And on a distant hilltop
an eagle spreads its wings,
while a songbird on a fencepost sings a melody.
In my Tennessee mountain home,
life is as peaceful as a baby's sigh.
In my Tennessee mountain home,
crickets sing in the fields nearby..."
Dolly Parton wrote this song about where she grew up, which is also where I grew up. (I don't know her personally... she's a little older than me.) Country stores were common, and families spent Sunday afternoons visiting and sharing a meal. I've played with junebugs and caught fireflies. Love the fragrance of the honeysuckle in the spring. I have that same southern drawl that Dolly does, but I can't sing. (Nor do I share many of her other attributes.) But I admire her, and she has certainly been good to the community where we grew up.
How interesting! And, what a great song that is. I could just envision that as I read the words. I was raised in the country too and it really brought back a lot of childhood memories. I like everything about the picture! I really like your choice of processing too. Fav!
