@milaniet I mow about 3 acres of field with a lawnmower. I have mowed around this patch of milkweed for several years... there are probably 50 or more plants now, but this is the first year I have seen any sign of monarchs... and have been blessed to see several this year. I did sow orange butterfly seed and either they didn't come up or the deer ate them. The deer don't seem to bother the wild milkweed.
@calm Keep an eye out for when it starts to turn really dark and you can see its wings very clearly. The emergence happens very fast and the butterfly will hang there for a while to stretch its wings. So cool—We’ve “raised” over 40 of them recently and have several ready to emerge any time now!
@aikiuser I could see what I thought was the outline of a wing yesterday. Pouring rain right now. I’ll try to check it out during a break in the weather. Thanks!
@calm Once it gets almost black, you’ll have about 24 hours (give or take) before it emerges. It’s difficult to catch them just as they’re emerging, but so amazing if you can!
