Lincolnshire was known as Bomber County during WW2 & many of these would have taken off from the many RAF bases in the county. I htink there are now only two left flying.
Today there was a fly past the cathedral area as part of the RAF 100year Birthday. I only managed to get the back end as it was disappearing over the Lincoln castle ramparts.
We were stood in the castle square, which is an echo chamber in itself & it was really hard to tell from which direction it was coming from until it was in view! Quite like the slight blurr of the propellars.
Many thanks for your continued support with comments & favs & for yesterday's PP & tp
Good shot. I did get the chance to go inside a Lancaster (on the ground) at RAF Coningsby a few years ago. It was very interesting. Lovely to see flying.
Brilliant. A truly classic plane. The first time I saw a Lancaster flying was over Hemswell in 1969 when we were at Scampton. The Lancaster and the Vulcan are my two favourite planes of all time.
Fabulous. Just the particular sound of the Lancaster engine wells me up with tears. So iconic, I've always loved it. I wonder if it will be out for a flypast for the royal wedding?
