You May think that an odd title? Let me explain......
It is a saying that Phil and I have, for when something happens and you don’t know why! The reason we have this saying is due to Phil’s Mum - years ago when computers were relatively new, and before Microsoft Office, she used to ring Phil saying she had problems. One time she called to tell him she had “lost the butterfly” (a graphic in the WordPerfect application) and he was meant to be able to talk her through reinstalling said butterfly.
Today as it’s been raining and I am a day off I thought I would take the camera off Ai and play with some stuff on M, Av and Tv. Been playing with aperture and a few times when I have pressed things, I don’t know how to then get back to where I was before I pressed things - hence when you “lose the butterfly.”
Have simplified the composition in this one.
When my mother called, and this was back in the late '80s, about the butterfly (basically a 'stock image' within the WordPerfect (5.1 I think it was) word processing software) that I'd got for her and installedon her PC, having gone missing, she basically insisted that she'd 'not done anyting, not clicked on anything' and and here's the best bit 'it must have just flown away.'
I actually managed to get her to locate said butterfly image, via a landline telephone convesation from Leicester to Norfolk in a folder adjacent to the the folder where the images were located and, though stressing that she must have 'accidentally' dragged the butterfly image to that folder, the reply was that she categorically had not.
Hence the saying that Carole alludes to that we use in our home whenever something happens on the computers, tablets or phones - ‘we've lost the bl***y butterfly’
What a lovely saying and a beautiful story behind it all ! - so much kinder than saying you have lost the plot ! If you have lost the butterfly - you have certainly found the shells !! A lovely composition , and light against that black background ! - fav
I love that saying! It’s so perfect for so many situations. I know exactly how to reset my camera, because I have had to do that many times, ha. This is a lovely still life, Carole.
LOL I loved your story and can sympathize with your mum. When I worked in a bookstore with computerized cash registers for inventory purposes, I was constantly losing butterflies! "What now?!" became the second most common phrase spoken to me in that place (next to good job of course!). Nice capture and still life.
@phil_sandford Laughed out loud at that story - flown away!!! Fantastic.
Lovely classic image. And you are not alone - I press things and then wonder what happened too!
Superb image. That happened to me a few days ago. I have lost several Word documents and am waiting son-in-law to come and fix things. He will come one day......
Love your shot. I loose butterflies all the time! @phil_sandford The son of a friend of ours sorted out our lost tv programmes via photos of said tv remote control and more pics of tv screen . He was in Ireland and I'm in Spain. My husband was out so he couldn't help. ....I've kept all the messages and pictures on my iPad for next time! . None of it resulted in a lovely photo like yours Carole.
