White Elephant!

Went to a colleagues birthday lunch today & whilst I was waiting for people to arrive ( a phenomenon in itself, as I am not renowned for being early!) I took a few pictures along the Brayford water front.
This strange looking thing, is a water clock & was placed here in 2001. I remember it working to begin with but I’m not sure that it has worked for some time now! Hence the reference to a White elephant!
Worked for ‘a bit’ then stopped. Worked again for ‘a bit’ then stopped. Hasn’t worked since.

Nice capture of another project by Lincoln City Council wasting our mone

It looks like all the snow has melted, that is a good thing! This thing is what is wrong with city art committees. We have some atrocious sculptures around here that are just terrible. Good taxpayer money was spent for them. I’m sure good taxpayer money went for this thing, too. Good grief!

@louannwarren no snow in the city, still some along the roads outside, but so much better!
Glad you liked this as much as we do!! 😉 (not!)

Very unusual, I like the Restaurant behind, is that where lunch is held?

@happysnaps it was actually in Nando’s next door. This building is quite interesting though. It started life as garage/ car showroom in the 60s & I believe has a preservation order on it , seem to remember they wanted to knock it it down some years ago & that’s when they decided it should be kept.

This is definitely an unusual piece!

Does it have a clock face? Looks unusual

Well there's different :)

@mave no clock face. I believe it is supposed to rotate once an hour, it was never really explained how it works. It just appeared one day & now doesn’t seem to do anything!

A strange structure, but no doubt a conversation piece now.

Looks like an interesting clock. Too bad it doesn't work anymore.

Strange but intriguing!

What a fascinating structure. I wonder if anyone can actually tell the time from it?

Perhaps it needs winding

Strange-looking clock. I wonder how it works!

@sangwann I know the top is meant to rotate, once an hour. So whether its meant to be like a sun dial? I have a feeling it had bell noises too, but I cant remember.

Interesting structure and shot! I've seen small water clocks but never one this large. It's too bad they can't get it to work properly. Such a waste of money. :-(
