Created by sculptor Gyula Pauer in 2005,this memorial on the banks of the Danube between the Parliament Building and Chain Bridge,is dedicated to the Budapest Jews who suffered mass execution by Hungarian Fascists,on the banks of the river,in 1944/45,a thought-provoking memorial to the horrors of war.
Many thanks for all your views, comments and favs, always much appreciated.
This memorial speaks volume. You captured it nicely. I like that you included both the single shoes of a male and of a female insert. It brings it from the group to individual people.
I found this simple memorial so very poignant that I had tears in my eyes for those poor Jews who had to suffer so much during WW. May humanity does not see something like that ever ever.
Such a simple idea for a piece of artwork and so very powerfully evocative and poignant. And it encapsulates why art is important too, I think.
Well presented tryptich; I find the angle at which the image at top right is taken renders it particularly thought-provoking. Nicely done.
