Diffusing

My sister-in-law gave me some essential oils for my birthday, so I ordered this little diffuser online to try. It has a well of water inside and you put essential oils in and the thing puffs out this scented vapour for a few hours before it runs out of puff. It also changes colour light every few seconds, which is pointless but fun.

When my son saw it last night, he said "WHAT is that??? Oh no, my mother has gone all Feng Shui on me!!"

Ha ha, not at all! But I figured it may be a way of helping the air stay more moist as I try to get over this pesky flu and its chesty cough. After 2.5 weeks, I will try anything!! I have tried eucalpytus in it, which was pleasant, and it currently has lemon in it.

Have you got one? What do you think of these things? Do they work?
Great photo. I have one and love it. I use the oils in the diffuser and on the skin :)

Does it smell? I can't cope with smelly things... I'm a horror for fresh air and windows open everywhere!

Oh I’m after one of those, nice capture.

Yes they can be very effective take it from me I am a retired clinical Aromatherapist, try a mixture, lemon and eucalyptus, lavender and tea tree, peppermint and lemon or orange or grapefruit, marjoram and lemon. Just a couple drops of each no more. They can make you feel a lot better but too much or the wrong oils can give you a bad headache and make you feel ill. Try and get the best quality essential oils and you will notice the difference. Fruit oils lift and are refreshing , herbs are painkillers and soothing, wood notes like Sandlewood are relaxing.
Stay away from rosemary, sage, ylang lang, all can make you feel poorly if not used in the right amounts. Hope this helps!

My wife has a hand held steam inhaler which she uses everyday to relieve sinus congestion due to allergies. She puts a drop of eucalyptus oil on the air intake when she uses it. She says it helps her tremendously. I'm sure it does. Before she started to use it she would go through sneezing fits at various times during the day. Sneezing fits are history now.

I've got to get something like this! Now I know what to look for! I think it would be absolutely wonderful!

My granddaughter received one of these for Christmas, I was quite fascinated by it & how it lit up. I fancied one myself but had forgotten until I saw this one. Lydia has never said if she found it helpful for medicinal reasons, I know it came with different oils, I just liked the smell.

How interesting it looks like a cross between a volcano and Indian smoke signals. Hope it does the trick and it clears your sinuses.

I bought my daughter one for Christmas as she's always congested, she says it has helped and she loves the light as she doesn't like the dark!

Yes ! I have several diffusers. I totally think they work. I have one in the great room - I usually have one running all the time - I like the scent. Plus I make a concoction for when my son comes home since he is allergic to pet hair so I have diffusers in the guest rooms. One in our bedroom with a snore no more cocktail for my Ross. So many uses . Enjoy

Beautiful photo and description!

A great idea I have an electric diffuser but when in a quiet room it can be heard running which is a bit annoying but lovely to use the various oils for relief and comfort.

I love my diffuser -- minty for times I need to be more alert, lavender at night, and all kinds of others, too. What I love about your capture is that it almost looks like a volcano! If you turn it black and white with selective red on that inside lip, and put a black background, it could completely pass for a volcano! I wish mine looked like that because I got a photo toy for Christmas from my nephew and it has stick-on-hands and I could pose it climbing up the volcano!

Fabulous. I used to have one with a tealight candle and loved the different scents. I've seen this kind of diffuser in action, they seem very good.

@craftymeg Fantastic, thank you SO much for such practical and detailed information. Hugely appreciated. I had no idea!

@jyokota Ooh those are good tips on which aromas do what! Thank you. And I did smile at your new toy - it sounds brill! Exploring the volcano......might have to play with that idea at some point and figure out how to do selective colouring. What fun!

It certainly is chugging away. And it sounds quite posh with changing lights etc. We used one of these - not so posh though :) when the kids were little and sick with colds etc. It certainly helped them sleep at night. I seem to remember that we put a menthol concoction in it? I hope it helps you too. Cheers XX

Try warm water with a squashed lemon and honey for your cough. I like this. Possibly looks even better in a dark ambience.
