@stefanotrezzi has posted several pictures of jobs in the streets of Abu Dabi. I said I was going to do the same for Italy. Here is the result. Admittedly not great, but that's what I have today. Sellers of fruit, pizzaiolo, garbage collectors, happy members of the local police, glass blower, cooks, a newstand
@ivan thank you Ivan. I’m glad you enjoyed traveling in Italy! We always travel on our own, except once, many years ago in Syria. We saw things that sadly don’t exist anymore
These are actually great, I love how you made yourself noticeable in some of them. My initial plan was to ask people in shops to look into the camera, but stranger portraits are still out of my comfort zone! Bottom row are my top pics anyway
Huzzah! Really like your collage. Particularly, the bottom row of images, which to me, are each above the level of the others, which are good, but probably best left in a collage. The bottom three seem to me exceptional at capturing their subjects and their immediate environment and worthy to be displayed separately. I enjoy the intensity of the glassblower, the relationship and casual joie de vivre of the chefs, as well as the composition and claustrophobic nature of the magazine merchant. Eugene Atget took some interesting pictures similar to this one. One of my daughter had some friend over several years ago. He expressed the opinion, misguided as it was, that photography was not truly art. I took him to a book of Atget's work and by chance opened to a photo depicting a magazine kiosk outside of a park and analyzed the photo and all of the artistic decisions which went into the photo and how it easily met any possible definition of art. To his credit, the young man agreed and, at least outwardly, altered his opinion. Similarly, your street scenes often rise to the level of art, though you might not adequately appreciate them, as such. But I shall give you time to adjust your opinions.
@suzanne234 they were really nice. When one of the two realized that I was outside and going to take a pic, he called the other and they posed smiling for me!
@golftragic thank you Marnie. I really enjoy your interest in my pictures of Italian life. Stefano Trezzi took one picture a day of people working in Abu Dabi and gave me the idea, but Iam impatient and wanted to do everything in one day, hence the collage
@mbrutus welcome back! And thank you for your detailed comment of my collage. I’d really love to be close to someone capable of explaining the merits and the faults of my photos. And of others’, of course. But here I have not yet found anyone so competent. Luckily there is 365, but it’s not enough. Needless to say I don’t agree with your excessively positive opinion on my photographic “art”😜. Thank you for letting me know Atget. I must study the old masters to learn more about photography.
@caterina I'm thoroughly enjoying your photos Caterina. I've never been to Italy and am loving seeing your country through your eyes. Thanks to @jyokota for 'introducing' us. I understand impatient!
@golftragic Thank you Marnie. Now that I know, I will feel allowed to post iconic buildings. I felt a little embarassed because I don't want to appear like the official voice of the Touristic Office! On the other hand when I go to beautiful places and see beautiful buildings I can resist the temptation to take pictures.
@golftragic@caterina So glad to introduce you two :) And seeing each other's countries and travels and everyday life throughout this world intrigues me.
Caterina, I do like seeing the range of "jobs" you captured in your collage! The middle ones must be of the polizia -- because the carabinieri uniforms appeared more military-like.
