La Fioritura / Flowers in bloom

In the Sibillini Mountains, in central Italy, every year there is an explosion of colours due to the flowers sawn by its inhabitants. The main colour is yellow because of the rapeseed that grows with the lentils, then there is the red of the poppies, the blue of the cornflowers and the white of the daisies. Like a wonderful carpet. We went there today and I took many many pictures. The tragedy is that this village and all the villages nearby were hit by a very strong earthquake in August 2016 that claimed at least 200 lives, and the destruction is still evident everywhere. Reconstruction is difficult because the roads to reach the villages had been blocked for a long time, the houses were in large part of stone, and the weather in winter is prohibitive
Stunning carpet of colour

Sad to hear about the destruction by the earthquake. Good to see that the farmers can still sow their crops

That is quite a sad story. But at least their lifes are brightened to a degree by the fields of beautiful flowers that you have captured so magnificently in your photo. I like the perspective you have chosen. It gives the optimum feeling of scope and overall setting.

What a deeply rich coloration you have captured here. The story, however, is sad, and we can only hope that people will bring back the area again some day.

The views of the flower paddocks is lovely - but I must admit is was the mountains in the background that really grabbed my interest,
