I like this more than the first version, mainly due to the negative space you've given around the ball. To get great black background, underexpose your background two stops, then light your subject. My only comment would be to watch for dust spots on your base! They drive me nuts - I was shooting on black cloth yesterday and kept getting yellow pollen on it - out came the cat hair roller to try and get rid of them. May too try a square crop on it. It's a lovely shot, beautifully lit and a beautiful piece with a lovely story.
