My oldest son, Jason, asked me one day why I had what he considered to be an ugly flag hanging outside my home and I told him it was the only one I found that had a cat and a moon and was Halloween themed. That Christmas, he gave me this, one of his first creations in silk painting.
My banner is square, approximately 2'x2', so you are only seeing a portion of it in this shot. I have never used it as a flag outside because I love it, although Jason assures me he will just make me another.
Jason creates banners and many other items for people in the SCA, an organization he and Shawn are active in and he takes specialized orders for his work. This is how he pays for his armor and travel expenses to attend events without taking from the household budget while demonstrating to Shawn that being busy, using a talent you have and that you enjoy and share with others can also bring in a part-time income that can be used to enhance your life.
@dmortega Dorrena, i can't even begin to tell you how talented Jason is. This is my son, the doctor, who went to China earlier this year with the other teachers as a global learning fellowship. He is rarely idle. thank you very much for commenting and yes, i agree with your comment 100%. thank you so very much.
jason seemed to have inherited all the artistic genes from the family's gene pool. that is quite a banner, i love the colours. is there an elephant or is my imagination on overdrive today? :-)
@summerfield no elephant, just the cat, a moon and stars. there are swirls, too. he gives the silk a molted look by using coarse salt in some way. he takes orders and then makes each banner - or whatever is asked - i know he has branched out to do other things, too.
