Country roads. . . by catsmeowb

Country roads. . .

do take you home, as John Denver sang, but we do not live in West Virginia. . . taken along the Stannard Mountain Road. Most people use it as the short cut to Hardwick, Johnson, such places that connect on the other side by Route 15 instead of going through St. Johnsbury. I know I have mentioned before we do not have a lot of paved roads in our town - not sure if this shot was taken on the Wheelock side of the mountain or if we were still in Stannard. The line changes as you travel over the mountain, but we were certainly headed home.
A beautiful scene - such lovely colours.

A lovely shot - and I can see the autumn colours beginning to appear in the trees.

I would sing that song too. I don't know why I thought you lived in the UK. Obviously not, so can I ask where you do live?

I see a bit of color in the leaves now! Hopefully the foliage doesn't take long to come in. I have a project in mind but I want pretty colors in the trees instead of just green. Nice shot!

@tremerryn foliage is just beginning; i am so looking forward to it. thank you so much for commenting. i shot this through the windshield of the truck and think it came out ok considering we were moving and the road conditions.

@fishers thank you. am looking forward to seeing what this years foliage will be like. it has been very dry so we are not sure what the outcome will be. hoping for a good year.

@kchuk this road is very long and goes way up and then, of course, down the other side. also, it is rather narrow. two vehicles can easily pass each other but at times it can be tricky because there are no guard rails and on the one side only the hillside going down. of course, the trees will stop any vehicle from rolling too far! my husband plows this road and also grades during other seasons.

@prttblues i, too, am so looking forward to foliage season and now will be looking for your project. do you think it will be a good season? i have been hearing so many different reports. some say yes, some say no due to this dry season we have had. so far, it seems a bit late to me.

Camille, this picture would be a good one for the song title theme. songtitle-13. love the lovely big trees on each side of the path. also love the song by John Denver. will listen to it now while having my tea.
