Still taking shots of Maggie and trying to decide what to submit to the Addison's Calendar. It is our biggest fund raiser throughout the year to aid research into Addison's Disease in dogs and to assist those with newly diagnosed dogs that can't afford the rather incredible bills that hit when a dog crashes. And the crash is how most of us find out our dogs are ill. Maggie hadn't been "right" in a long time. They call Addison's "The Great Pretender" because it is so difficult to figure out. We had seen so many specialists over time. Finally, on my 60th birthday, we came home from a day of fabulous fun and I took one look at her and told Tom she was dying - and she was. We took her to the ER and a little over 24 hours and $1500 later, we had our answer. A year a half later she is happy and healthy. I give her an injection every month and a pill every day. I have fought so hard to find the answers for her and now I work to help others who face this. Once you have a diagnosis it takes some studying, and the help of my incredible online ADog Group, but she will remain the dog of my heart for many years to come.
Poor wee Maggie - she didn't know what was wrong! I am full of admiration for your perseverence in this - some people would find it too hard and give up!
This capture is a winner and Maggie is too ... gosh she is one gorgeous dog. I think that she looks so healthy now. We get so attached to our pets and the vet bills are so high today... it's a wonderful thing that you are doing, Cathy. I never heard of dog's getting this disease ...is it mainly her breed?!! Am glad that you found the answer. :)
A fav for more reasons than one I am glad you are helping others .... As most can not afford the high bills .... This is sometimes how dogs end up in shelters as people can not afford the bills ..... I salute you for this and would love to buy a calendar let me know how .... I like this picture so I think
This should be it
