Fall by cdonohoue

Fall

Sort of speaks for itself. In all honesty, the sort of silvery blob is the pooper scooper that has a home in the back of the garden by the shed. I love the cooler nights and hate the overcast. I can already feel that the achy parts are achier. I've decided to self diagnose that I have SAD - seasonal affective disorder. I mourn the loss of warmth and sunshine almost as much as the garden.
This is a great shot, the colours are still so rich and 'warm'.... Oooops should I even say that word! Chin up Cathy, just consider the changing cooler months as the intermission between great events!

@aurorajane I'm trying to remember that each day is a gift and to not "wish my life away" as my Mom would say. I am going to try and celebrate Winter this year.........try is the operative word.

This is a great shot with lovely focus, tones and light. We will not be seeing the fall you are having down here for at least another month or six weeks. Sunny days here with cool nights, low humidity, gorgeous blue skies daily: we call this chamber of commerce weather!

This is such a beautiful shot--so very different. I must admit moving from my lovely California to the frozen north has taken a number of years for me and my body to adjust.

An illustration of a dying summer if ever I saw one, great DOF.
September 25th, 2012
You have captured the beauty of a dying flower and made it immortal!
September 25th, 2012
@cdonohoue . . . Yes, Cathy, as the message on my fridge magnet says, "Every day is a gift; that's why they call it 'The present'"! Oh, and poor little flower . . . I can almost hear the violins playing for it!
September 25th, 2012
Sad flower! I love winter - fires, hot soup, warm fluffy jerseys, DVDs to watch, bare branches silhouetteted against the sky!
September 25th, 2012
@soboy5 Do you ever go north to see the vivid fall colors? I really do love fall - just hate the drearies.
@yonnie I don't know how you did that. It gets more than cold enough here for me.
@happypat Thanks Pat.
@lwain Thank you Lindy. What kind words.
@wordpixman Exactly.
@maggiemae I am with you on the hot soup. I so wish we had a fireplace.

What beautiful rich color in a dead flower!
September 25th, 2012
@cdonohoue Cathy, I'm heading up to Vermont in two weeks for a family reunion and I'm bringing my Nikon!
September 25th, 2012
There is beauty, even in decay and dying, and you have captured that really well here Cathy. I have to say I agree with Maggie about the winter though... snuggling up on the sofa, twinkly lights, slouchy clothes and xmas food!
September 25th, 2012
Aww it is here, nice done
September 25th, 2012
Great DOF in this lovely composition!
September 25th, 2012
Beautiful capture! I have a few flowers left, we have not had our killing frost yet. But I must have SAD too! I feel the same!
September 25th, 2012
Ah, yes - the pooper scooper! Ours gets a good work out, but not as much as yours! Lovely shot! Enjoy fall with the wonderful colours, crisp evenings and the smell of woodsmoke. Soon, we'll have Christmas to look forward to. After that, I'll join you in the doldrums until spring!
September 25th, 2012
Great capture of fall!
September 26th, 2012
an amazing composition... again well done.
September 26th, 2012
This is wonderful... There is so much beauty in it still!
September 26th, 2012
I Love this shot of Fall...Great focus!!!
September 26th, 2012
it's a great sign of the coming of winter.....
September 26th, 2012
Beautiful shot, Cathy.
September 26th, 2012
Wonderful colors and textures!
September 26th, 2012
despite how you may be feeling, you caught some lovely warmth in the colour of this saddened flower...
September 26th, 2012
Ohh...Fall does have to make the flowers droop and the leaves fall. It is sad to lose them. Good bokeh and closeup.
September 26th, 2012
definitely it says goodbye to summer! my friend has SAD and has been using a special light to combat depression in some of her rooms...she really does believe it has helped her.
September 26th, 2012
Those lovely colours are hanging on...!
September 26th, 2012
When I saw this in the thumnail I thought it looked a little sad, but eveidently so is the photographer! We rae coming into summer and I can't wait....not meaning to rub it in of course!
September 26th, 2012
Even so that is one beautiful photgraph and illustrates the end of summer perfectly, stunning. Now just you start thinking of all the good things winter brings!!
September 26th, 2012
You've captured the textures and colors wonderfully! 8) I wish we had seasons here, instead of this never-ending, punishing heat.
September 26th, 2012
Nicely captured.
September 26th, 2012
Sigh, this says it all, doesn't it? I too will miss the pleasures of summer, but I guess we appreciate them all the more after a season without them.
September 26th, 2012
This makes me SAD, too!! But the colors are still beautiful!
September 26th, 2012
Beautiful warm autumnal colours!!Shame our flowers have to die off, though!!
September 26th, 2012
gorgeous light and color!!! i LOVE fall, but i hate that winter comes after it. lol.
September 26th, 2012
Beautiful! Isn't it amazing how pretty things are even at the end of their life!
September 26th, 2012
Poor flower! Great shot
September 27th, 2012
This is a stunning shot. I keep coming back to it. Gotta be a fav. As for SAD, I diagnosed myself with that years ago...shame we haven't had much of a Summer this year! xx
September 27th, 2012
Thank you Lisa. I keep coming back to this myself. I love it. Maybe because I am just not wanting to say good bye to Fall and hello to Winter.

Mel
love all your flower captures and especially this one! you must have a gorgeous garden. may i ask what lens you are using? i love how you turned the last vestiges of summer into an enduring image of beauty.
September 28th, 2012
@mellow The lens is a 60mm Tamron macro lens that I have been totally in love with since the day I got it. Most of what you see is taken with this lens. Thank you. This is my favorite Fall shot.

September 30th, 2012

October 1st, 2012
Love the colors, composition, but is kind of sad... autumn is so beautiful, but the dead of winter lies beyond.
