In the Christian Tradition it is Maundy (from the Latin Mandatum or washing of feet) Thursday. We will go to church tonight for a light meal and communion in remembrance of that first communion so many years ago in the Upper Room. We are preparing for the journey to Easter Sunday.
The word today was pastel. My Lenten Rose fulfilled my need for my religion and pastel. This Lent has been such a journey for my congregation as we get ever closer to selling my church home for the last 57 years. I am well aware that this old building is not the congregation that I love and that loves me in return. Knowing that this is my last Easter in the sanctuary that I have long felt was God's living room breaks my heart. But, knowing that God is guiding us to whatever is in store next, is the comfort of the Christian grieving on Good Friday and rejoicing on Easter morning.
Gorgeous shot, Cathy! You do flowers so well they are truly art! I hope you will be able to look back on this turning point in your church's life and receive understanding.
Our Queen has been giving out the Maundy Money today in Oxford. As she is in her 87th year She gave little bags each amounting to 87 pence to 87 men & 87 women....a very old custom.
So sad for you all Cathy...one becomes very attached to ones church, so many years of family worship & the most important events of lives begin & end there.
I admire your faith and how special it is to you. I'm sure it will sustain you and your congregation though the difficult time ahead. Beautiful Lenten rose, and symbolic... Fav.
Cathy, I have no faith other than the faith in my fellow man, the ordinary person, not those who lead us. I do have boundless admiration for those who have faith for I believe that you have something in your heart and soul that I don't. I hope that what is in your heart can sustain you through the change that you face. I know that it will. This is a lovely natural shot.
Beautiful capture Cathy, I love the lenten rose (although in Australia mine flower in our winter) this is such a pretty colour and I like the softness of the shot. Sad that you will be leaving your home but I'm sure there is plenty of good ahead for you :)
hi Cathy - i noticed your spectacular shot on the PP. i think the flower in the photo i posted on March 29 of a wrought iron fence might be the Lenten rose! may God bless you this Easter - keep trusting Him ~
I'm sure it's very bittersweet for you. :(

it's probably going to take a bit before the new one feels like home
