We went to Keeneland Racetrack yesterday in the great state of Kentucky. Kentucky is well knows for breeding horses. It is also home of the Kentucky Derby. It was an overcast, windy day here but that didn't stop us from having fun. We went with a couple that goes pretty often so we had enough advice about what was happening to only lose $35. Tom was making $4 bets, so not bad. And it really was a lot of fun. There were women walking around all dressed up in fancy, fancy hats - and then there was me.
I can see why folks enjoy it as there is great excitement that builds before each race. We got to go down and meet a Clydesdale up close and personal. He weighed 2000 lbs! And you could just feel his muscles move under your hands.
I can see why they call it the "Sport of Kings."
Gorgeous shot, Cathy. And that sounds like a really fun day. I have family near Louisville and was there just last summer. Been to the track but not on derby day.
Great shot - even the dust being kicked up! I went to the Epsom Derby last year, we were quite close to the finish line - the cheering-on and thundering hooves as the horses came close was intoxicating!
Wonderful action shot. We have a racetrack here in Edmonton and it is home to the Canadian Derby. One of these days I will have to go and take in a race
