This is a solemn moment in the life a Presbyterian Congregation. A new Elder is being ordained to serve on our session. You can't see him as all prior Elder's are asked to come forward to lay hands on him in prayer. One of the things I love about being a Presbyterian is our system of government. Our local church's have session and elect members to represent us. That session sends representatives to the Presbytery - which is answerable to the Synod. We bring our major issues to our General Assemblies. They used to be every year and not due to cost are less than that. We vote from the top down on how common practices are handled. Women were able to serve on boards and become Pastors during my lifetime.
I remember when I became an elder. It is a very uplifting moment to have all those hands placed upon you. You do feel like the whole congregation is affirming you.
BTW, what glorious stained glass!
