Did the "Roll in Day" Flickr challenge on May 19 using my stepdad's Canon film DSLR. As an additional challenge, I shot the whole roll in manual, seeing if I actually knew anything about photography. It turns out, I do! I am quite pleased with how the photos turned out. I had a few duds, but hey, less than I normally do with digital.
Getting a good portrait at high noon of my boy is quite difficult. To get this one, I had him shut his eyes, and remember what it was like to catch his first pop fly two days before. When he opened his eyes, I snapped the shot. I am so excited it turned out.
Was camping this weekend. Kind of. Anyhow, this lady who is friends with my sister in-law takes tons of photos with her Canon DSLR. My brother and sister in-law think she takes great shots (mainly because she is always shooting their baby). But everything was in full auto, she has no idea how to adjust anything. I wonder how many shots of hers are wasted.
What I'm trying to say is, manual rocks, good job!
@eight23photog Sadly, I just used our local grocery store. The one professional camera place in Nebraska that has three stores is not convenient. I still REALLY want to learn how to do my own. A childhood dream!
@klemieux@digitalrn Thank you! I have been shooting manually with my digital for almost a year but it feels good to get it right without instant feedback :-) I agree, Manual rocks!
@cfitzgerald Ah mine too. Looking to take a class this summer if I can. Good to know i can get my stuff processed easily in the meantime though - thanks!
@4stories it was so much fun! I love film even more now that I truly understand photography. Now I really want a film camera of my own. As scott said for a minimalist, my list is getting rather long and excessive :-)
Fabulous job, Courtney. But you never take a bad photo ....love your little guy on this! The expression is wonderful. I feel bad that I still shoot mostly on aperture. How on earth can you figure out "shutter" when taking so many different subjects as I usually do .... the rest is easy for me. But then again, I refuse to get that hung up on it .. I just don't EVER use auto! How did you like using film over digital as far as photo quality?
