Our friends are restoring this unique barn on their property. They don't have livestock (unless you count cats and dogs...!), so it's being converted into studio space. The domed cathedral ceiling is wooden and those big windows they've installed let in beautiful light! How could you not be inspired by such a great space??
What a great studio. Would love to see the inside once it's converted.

What a treasure this restored barn is !!!! I would think the space inside would be wonderful for doing whatever talents you might have -- I agree with Brad -- it would be fantastic to see the inside when its finished.

Excellent project. And I too would like a look inside, if the owners do not mind.

What an amazing structure. I have a special place in my heart for converted barns - especially ones with such character and such interesting bones.
When I was a kid, my uncle coverted a large old barn (on the Rappanock river) into a great place for us to go every summer. The area that had once been the stalls was converted to an eat-in kitchen. It was the original open floor plan. The remainder of the downstairs had two or three sitting areas with sofas. The kids (all 16 grandchildren - I'm the youngest) could play games - real ones not the computer kind. The stairs were the original stairs in the center of the barn - very steep - with a handrailing added. The entire upper floor was open with a dozen or more double beds. There was a corner with a plywood wall where we would go to change clothes. There was a shower outside on the back of the house. There was no indoor bathroom, just and outhouse. (That really dates me doesn't it!)
It made for wonderful childhood memories.

I would like to see inside this old barn. Do you think they would let you do that when they finish it?? I loved what Kathleen wrote because it described the cabin my family built when I was a schoolgirl. All open on the first floor, stairs leading up to a room full of beds. No plumbing, no electricity and no computer games. At night the whole family (adults and children) would sit around the fireplace and talk or play games. Those were the best of times.

Funny story about your dad. Our "cabin" was across the river from Tapahannock. We had to go through there, then cross the river. We would take the boat back over to the dockside gas station to get gas for the boat.

Wouldn't it be great to have a place like this to be creative in. My clay dust could get all over and I wouldn't even mind. =)

Imagine what an artist could do with studio space like that! I do think the cats & dogs should be welcomed to stay around, for they'd certainly be good company and perhaps, inspiration. ...and Cindy, thanks for the birthday message!

I've been really remiss in responding to gorgeous photos over the summer. I vow to improve. I love this shot. The barn is gorgeous and the sun flare over it is spectacular. Well done.
