Air Plant by chejja

Air Plant

This is a large air plant, currently in bloom, in the live oak tree that is in our front yard.
It looks quite at home on the oak tree - and what interesting flowers it has too. :)

One of the joys of 365 is seeing the different plants and birds from all over the world, this is fascinating, can't imagine it growing on our Oak trees in the UK!

Wonderful to see the flowers on the air plant a lovely capture against the bark. I have a tiny air plant in a sea shell trying hard to look after it the last one died.

On one of my first trips to FL I wanted my DH to get one of these for me. Seems they grow quite high in the trees. Never got one on that trip.

"Air plants" (epiphytes!) were my first botanical lesson when I started going to the campus greenhouse in late-2012!

@randystreat They do generally grow pretty high up in the trees. This one does for sure. My son's girlfriend requested that I send her several small ones after visiting here. I won't pick them out of the trees, but sometimes when it rains and blows some will fall onto the ground. I was able to pick up a few from the ground and box them up to send to her.
