I was on Calle Ocho (8th Street) in the Little Havana section of Miami when I stepped into the small studio of Omar Corrales. I found the artist painting an extremely intricate design on the piece pictured above. He graciously replied in the affirmative when I asked if I could photograph him at work. Omar was born in Havana, Cuba, where he graduated from the Academy of Art "San Alejandro." He later became a professor at the "Higher Institute of Art" (I.S.A.) where he taught painting, drawing, engraving, and perspective. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums in Cuba and around the world. In addition, Omar carried out the restoration of alterations and icons in the Dominican church of Cuba, "Via Crucis de San Juan de Letran." He moved to the United States in 2015, where he paints and displays his works in the Futurama Art Building in Miami, Florida.
Good portrait of the artist at work and some interesting information about him. I like that he is surrounded by other artwork, some of which might be his own.
