Ubuntu (Haiti Series)

"We are implicated in the lives of others, even those we have never met." --Steve Garber

I have wrestled with whether or not I should share this photo. Is it exploitative? Does it veer into poverty porn? Am I emphasizing Haiti's troubles instead of highlighting its strengths? Ultimately, I decided that this little one demonstrates the fact that poverty cannot hide or diminish beauty or strength or spirit. My protective instincts toward her also remind me that we are all connected and all are, in one way or another, responsible for each other. #ubuntu
I don't think this is exploitative at all - it certainly shows a side of life that us "wealthier" people often prefer to ignore in favour of our own "first world problems". I like it very much.

@graemestevens Thanks, Graeme. This is an issue I've become really sensitive about in recent years. Thanks so much for your input.

I lke this because of the story it tells and that needs to be heard. You did great in capturing your feelings.

Not exploitive at all... we in the 'first world' badly need a wake-up call...
