(Day 6) - Famous Sigs

Probably one of the most famous spots in Hollywood is the forecourt of the Chinese Theater, where you can gander at the handprints, footprints, and signatures of various stars. The theater opened in 1927 and supposedly the original owner got the idea of sketching star's prints into the concrete when he (or his friend) accidently stepped in the concrete while it was still wet. It was pretty crowded today so wasn't able to get all the shots I wanted. Still I liked this spot because of the neat-looking impression left by Doris Day's high-heel footprints :)

Thanks to MaryBeth's comment I was able look up an old photo taken from the actual ceremony on January 19, 1961: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm4251359232/rg200448512?ref_=rgmd_md_nxt

@maggiemae - Awesome Maggie! What a coincidence to capture one of your favorite star's prints. If you're ever in Hollywood be sure to check it out!

This is so cool! Do they put prints where their stars are too? Or just here? This was something I knew they did, but now seeing it....over fifty years later for some of them....it is very touching. Kind of sad....time baffles me. One day, in 1961 she stood right there (did they do it in the street or did they move them to their place later?) and pressed her heels in that concrete. And wrote her name....touching

@espyetta - Very happy to know you liked the shot MaryBeth! Thank you! It is very amazing and humbling to know that many of these prints have been around so long. The actual stars are on the "Hollywood Walk of Fame" and those don't have prints. The courtyard of the Chinese Theater is the only spot to see the collection of various stars prints. Sometimes they do the ceremony a few feet away from the main slab and move it in place later. But with regard to Doris Day's prints, they did her ceremony right here! I found an old photo taken from the actual ceremony. You can check it out here: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm4251359232/rg200448512?ref_=rgmd_md_nxt

@cjphoto Oh wow. That is touching....time, it flies too fast. I know all people look back and say that the older days were simpler, but I am going to say it anyway. I know it was not all simple...those were turbulent times...Viet nam, Hippies, etc.. but I was a kid. So it was all simple to me. haha Thanks for the link of gorgeous Doris
