Yep, you read that right. These are oven-baked marbles! Found this awesome craft online.
Set the oven to 450 degrees. Place the marbles on an oven safe pan (I used a muffin tin). Then baked them for 20 minutes. After the time is up, take them out. But be very, very careful because the marbles will be super hot! Immediately pour them in a bowl filled with ice water. Leave there for about 5 minutes to cool down. The sharp change in temperature will leave the outside smooth but crack the insides!
I've read that different oven temperatures can produce different results. Next time, might try 500 degrees.
Oh and in case you were wondering, they're still not edible! :P
I can tell how young you are because this is an old craft from the 60's! Still nice to rediscover it and put to such fabulous use in this terrific photo!
I have never heard of this baking marbles before, wow what a great idea and a great result too. I do remember as a child baking empty crisp packets in the oven, they shrink down really small.
