This morning, CJ and I had the goal of playing with reflections in puddles. It was a nice, cloudy day for our experiments but things started off less than stellar.
CJ walked by the puddle but we couldn't see his reflection anywhere. We moved to the left. We moved to the right. Up and then down. We did see a very dark figure in the water...it was a reflection but it wan't clear. Hmm, what were we missing?
Maybe more water? We added more water to make the puddle less shallow and immediately saw more detail. But it was only the tip of his hat, where was the rest of his body? I moved my camera lower...and lower...and lower...and lower, almost touching the ground. Suddenly, we saw it! A crisp, clear reflection! Eureka!
So CJ and I learned that reflections are all about angles (cloudy days & less shallow puddles help too). Keep trying different angles until you find that sweet spot! :)
Brilliant. The post is especially good in showing how much your toy photography is all about learning and showing technique. I hope your camera has a swing out LCD for when you are down low!
I like how you can see CJ's attire in the reflection. Having just spent a lot of time picking out clothes for Lego people, I now notice such things. Like the cool cap CJ often wears. And those Green Pants !! Have you seen the new picture book about a kid who only wants to wear GREEN PANTS?
@jyokota - I want a camera with a swivel LCD so badly. I'm a Pentax guy and once I'm able to afford it, the newest one has a swivel screen! I'm drooling over that thing. Haha.
Finding clothes is my favorite part! They can be mixed & matched with the different color pants. But green will always be my fav! I Thanks so much for telling me about that picture book, I'm gonna try to check it out! How awesome that there is a book about GREEN PANTS!!!
