Between the Pier and the Galleria, CJ found this historic little gem, the Santa Monica Camera Obscura. This building is a community art center and also houses a free-to-the-public camera obscura built in 1898.
In a very dark room, natural light squeezes through a pinhole in the ceiling and onto a large white plate, projecting a live image. You can turn a wheel to get a 360-degree view of the Santa Monica surroundings.
Camera obscuras are very old devices that led to the cameras we have today. It's almost like being inside a giant camera. As cool as this experience was, CJ is very happy technology has improved so he can actually carry a small camera! 📷😁
