Another gorgeous day! Spring started officially yesterday and I love all the new things to photograph!
This little ladybug flew in when I was taking pictures of these tiny wildflowers. The ladybug or ladybird beetle is the Tennessee state insect. Their life cycle is only about a month long, but they are aphid predators and very valuable to Tennessee farmers.
I was really glad she didn't fly away! I'm going to put the kitten in a carrier when I'm out, if he keeps trying to catch my subjects! He made me say a few very impolite words today! :0)
Ooo - this is pretty. Love the colours and the detail on this pretty little lady bird. Oh, I just noticed that you call them lady bugs? Do you call them lady birds at all? We call ours ladybirds. (good idea to put the kitty cat in a carrier too - That will make your photo taking much easier.)
@girlie We actually have two state insects. The other is a firefly or lightning bug beetle. I can't wait for them to come out! They glow in the dark. When we were children, we would catch lightning bugs and put them in a grass filled jar. :0)
We call them both now. When my Ellie was younger, we called them lady bugs so she wouldn't get confused with the bird bit haha.
