This is a newly hatched Buckeye butterfly. When butterflies first come out of their chrysalis, their wings unfold and they shiver to help them dry.
This was a chrysalis I found in the field last week. I brought it in and put in a butterfly habitat. I wasn't home when he was dry enough to fly and it was dark when I got home. I will release him tomorrow. In the meantime, I have put some Queen Anne's Lace in the habitat for him. :0)

Oh, my goodness. Did you sit up all night awaiting the emergence? If not, your timing is perfect. This is such a winner for subject, color, focus, DOF. FAV for me
