I watched this little caterpillar for a long time today. Either I need a new life or it doesn't take much to entertain me. LOL! It was eating flower petals and it could really eat a lot and fast. It's a Woolybear Moth Caterpillar. I think the name is perfect. :0)

Excellent woolly bear pic! There's some myth I'd heard as a child that you can predict the harshness of the upcoming winter by the band size of it's brown bs black sections
You can really see her holding on to that petal with her "hands" and munching away. Your close-up detail is amazing. I'd watch that for ages as well. Better than TV.
I didn`t see a carterpillar this year at all. With the butterfly I got lucky, (s) he didn`t move for a long time. Tired or hungry ? Love you pic with all those beautiful colours
@cjc I have a wonderful book I use. It's a Field Guide to Insects and Spiders of North America. It has excellent pictures and descriptions. I also use the online site BugGuide,net. Before I started this project, my insect and spider knowledge was very limited. I never thought I would love insects and spiders so much. :0)
