I'm glad I spent yesterday outside. Today it was cold and rainy. This is first day I've really been cold.
I'm feeling a little paranoid about what I post, after reading the discussion about photos people hate. I saw so many of my subjects on the hate list.
Someone on this site told me people shoot what they know. I agree with that statement. If you look hard enough, you can find beauty in everything around you. When I look at other people's pics, I look for the beauty, not the flaws. I know none of my pics are perfect, so I have no right to judge others.
Thank you for your kind words and faves on my cloud pics yesterday! I really appreciate your support!!! :0)
Carolyn, I think we need to stay focused on what the project means to us. I think the wording was harsh, and I think it is a little unfair to say "I hate" a certain type of photo. It may not be a personal preference, but I think the word "hate" comes across so powerful. I say continue posting what you like. I may not "like" a certain type of photo, but in spite of that, as a photographer you can still look for, identify good points, and appreciate it for what it is.
Gosh, I didn't realize people thought I might hate *their* photos on 365 - I just listed general things I don't care for. I love this shot - did you black out the background? It makes it so striking!
I think the discussion post was done semi-tongue in cheek. For example, I really don't like pregnancy photos. And yet I keep looking at them, mainly because I thought my wife looked wonderful pregnant and I think women in general who are pregnant look absolutely wonderful. Does this make sense?
I follow people because I like their work and I think most everyone does the same thing. Therefore, the people that follow you are following you because of what you do with your camera and lenses. Therefore, you should keep doing what you like to do, because that's why the people who follow you are following you in the first place. And if you branch out, more power to you, but you should never not post a photo because of what you think your followers are expecting or because of what they like or dislike.
I think we should all appreciate that we all have individual tastes and I think it is because of these differences that this project is such an interesting experience. I always look forward to exploring what has happening around the world by the wonderful photos that have been shared by all the 365 members. Nice shot by the way. :-) We also have another miserable day here but that is because of the near cyclone winds at this stage the rain is staying away.
This photo is awesome, Carolyn. Have never seen anything like it!! How did you do this??? Beautiful. P.S. Take the pictures that you enjoy taking . . you aren't doing this to please others. You are doing it to make yourself happy with the finished product.
@webfoot Thank you, Paul. I used a geometric circle effect with a black background. I used Coral Paint Shop. I feel bad for new people that might read the discussion. I will continue to post what makes me happy. I'm my own worst critic. Just ask my husband. :0)
Hey, you've got 262 followers so you certainly don't have to worry about what anyone said. I think your photos are great. I totally agree with you that there is beauty in everything and I think photography helps us see that.
This is beautiful! I read that thread too ... and no one HAS to look at my photos or yours ;) But we all look at yours because you do wonderful. Shoot what you love!
Girl, you can't worry about what some people hate. THEY don't worry that others may hate their style/subjects of/in photography one bit. So go right ahead...it is okay if they hate certain things. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your work.... :0) And this is awesome...is it Little Planet app or in gimp or what? It makes it look like the "perfect" water drop shot. :0)
@espyetta Thank you, MaryBeth! I used a geometric circle effect in my Coral Paint Shop with a black background. I'm glad you weren't hurt in your car accident this afternoon!!!
Interesting shot and effect Carolyn . And as the others above have said , its a personal , you do what makes you feel good/happy or whatever you like , its not about pleasing others. As I well know from the Art world "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" ...what is trash to some is anothers treasure ...so just go for it !!!!!
This is beautiful! I guess I missed that post (kinda glad). I consider most of my pictures a learning experience. Hopefully others will enjoy them but if they don't... oh well! They also document my life (from the past year anyway). I probably wouldn't have taken that picture of my 90 year old Uncle with my Mom the day he stopped over ( http://365project.org/terryd2011/365/2011-06-15) and now he's gone and I'm so thankful I did and I have that picture of them together. Shoot what you love... your photos are always beautiful! :)
i love it carolyn, its very creative and i totally agree with @webfoot that people are following you because they love your work...i sure do! I think the only thing we can do here is photograph what appeals to us, and at the end of the day it is a personal project. Thats what i am going to do..so lots of me chasing the cat and kids for the remainder of my time!
This is such a cool effect! I wish I had technology and skill to do something like this; beautiful combination of some of my favorite things!
It looks like I missed a post/thread, but I think you should/hope you will continue to photograph and post what you love or what strikes your fancy or catches your eye. As they say, "haters gonna hate" and you shouldn't let it affect your choices.
Nice effect. I wouldn't worry at all about the thread - the only reason (the relatively few) people were mentioning bug shots was because they're squeamish about bugs! Nothing to do with the photography particularly!
Wow, this looks really cool! I love it! I think you make fantastic pictures! I think we all have our likes and dislikes and this is your project and you can post what you want, just enjoy the world around you! I love your pictures!!! That thread was just for fun, not to be taken seriously.
This is so cool! Great focus and processing. You can't control what other people like or hate, just what you like and what you put in your project. As long as you like the shot, ignore everyone else - no one is making them look or comment :)
Very cool shot! Stay true to yourself and try to stay away from negative discussions about things people hate, that's not really what this site is about. How can we be supportive of one another if we're hating?
Carolyn, Just keep on doing what you have always done...hate is a harsh word and who really cares if someone "hates" one of our pics. I'm doing this project for me and I always appreciate the nice comments but I'm not living for the haters!! This is a wonderful photo. I was trying to figure out how you did it! I love the colors and the shine and the black background!
I'm glad I didn't see any of this discussion. I do what I want for my daily pic, it's my diary. Of course I'm pleased when other people like what I've done and I feel a great sense of frienship with those I follow every day and those who comment on mine every day. I look forward to seeing your pictures and show them to my husband. We would be devastated if you changed one iota. I have learnt so much natural history as well as dof and composition from you. Todays picture is stunning.Have confidence in your undoubted ability and KEEP 'EM COMING!!
I don't care what people think about my project, I upload what I want...it is my project after all, if they dont like it they dont have to look at them do they. please dont change for anyone!
I love this unusual photo.
I really love this photo. What an interesting effect you've done with it. Someone should start a "photos people love" on here and I'm sure many of the same topic on the "hate" list would be on the "love" list by others. Everyone has different tastes. Makes the world go round. But I have to say what I like most about 365 is all the positive things people say to each other on here. I get joy from this site every day looking at beutiful expressions of people's lives. And you're one I follow, so you contribute to that for me every day. :-)
Aah wow, what a discussion.. take no notice though. This is your project, and you are doing just fab!! You have a lot of attention on every single one of your pictures, all of them, because they are fantastic - all of them! Keep it going, we are almost there! X
Liking this picture, a little bit different and of course, fab! :o)
Wow!! Amazing shot and so very cool processing!! Something else I would like to learn!! I also felt the "hate" thread was harsh and basically everything listed, I had done!! (except hdr... which I would also like to learn!).
another wonderful shot, carolyn, i love the processing. continue doing what you do. to change because someone says something just gives them power over you when in fact the power is yours. no one should take the banter on that thread personally. for the most part it made me smile.
That is a really cool shot, Carolyn. Don't be worried about that discussion. A lot if us have been doing this a long time and (yourself included) and it was just venting, I actually was amused that someone mentioned Tiny Planets because as you know, it's one of my faves. I thought the discussion was fun and I think it's ok to shake things up once in a while. Don't worry about what you post...you always put something special up anyway
Definitely not on my hate list!! And I bet those exact same subjects would appear on a 'Love' list too! It's better for art to stimulate emotion than do nothing.
This is an awesome shot, what an amazing effect! I didn't see the thread but can't believe that "hated photos" would be discussed! this is a fave for me:)
I was going to ask how you got this cool effect, but I see you've already answered it! Carolyn, although the hated photos discussion was entertaining, as I mentioned in the thread - it was more of an airing of personal likes (or dislikes rather) - than a thread to single out certain people's shots. You know I love your shots, and so do a lot of other people, judging by the amount of times you end up on the pp. Your love of what you shoot shines through in your work and it's the reason we're all here. Keep posting your beautiful shots and we'll keep fav'ing:)
Love this! How creative and interesting. I only checked the first few posting in that thread - didn't really interest or bother me. My project is for me to figure out my photographic style - not cater to the likes/dislikes of others.
Carolyn I also noticed that thread.... and at first it did make me think a little uncomfortable about what I posted.... but then after much thought decided that hey... its my project, about my world and so therefore I will carry on posting what means the most to me and if its liked then all well and good... in fact its heartwarming if your shot is liked... but if its not liked then hey just don't follow me...... Although I do think on reflection it was a little bit of tongue in cheek fun.... but it was thought provoking nonetheless....I adore your photography Carolyn and its a sheer pleasure following you....♥
Oh yes and this is just a wonderful shot, I love what you have done with it and for me its a fav ♥
