Helper? by cjwhite

Helper?

I got an early present from Santa last night. My mom gave me a zoom lens for my new camera! :0)

I really want to get good bird pics, so I went out with my new toy early this morning. I walked around the yard, taking some practice shots and looking for birds. No birds anywhere! I see lots of birds when it's cloudy, so you would think they would be out when it's sunny. Nope!

I did finally find some birds and got some pics. I love the new lens, but I need lots of practice!!! I need to learn how to keep it steady. It's really heavy! :0)

This is baby Buddy trying to help me find birds. He was in the dogwood tree. I took about 50 bird pics, and you get a cat pic. LOL!

I'm not sure what I'll be taking pics of tomorrow. We're going to finish Christmas shopping and get our tree! :0)

THANK YOU for the wonderful responses to yesterday's Christmas pic of Baby Blue!!! I really appreciate it!!!!! :0)
I'll take Buddy any day! Love this little helper and you sure got a fantastic shot of him. Great one, Carolyn!

So cute!
December 19th, 2011
very nice capture Carolyn!
December 19th, 2011
Those branches look too small to support him, which makes this photo that much cooler! Even in B&W you rock the cat pics!
December 19th, 2011
Gorgeous! Love it in black and white
December 19th, 2011
Nice, go with the BW of the cat. I have one just like him, the smartest of ours and a real talker.
December 19th, 2011
Really nice black & white shot of baby Buddy.
December 19th, 2011
@robv Thank you! I have two more that look like him. I have another male named Other Buddy and a female named Little Buddy. I've had Little Buddy for awhile. She's an inside cat and the best behaved cat I've ever had! :0)
December 19th, 2011
Fabulous photo! Congrats on the new lens. :-)

My BW guy is Bootsy, named by my daughters for his white feet. All my cats are inside cats, too many Coyotes and Bobcats patrolling the neighborhood. Then there are the cars along the main street behind the house, it's worthwhile shoveling the litter box rather than a backyard burial.

Did you do any processing to this other than monochrome? Because there's something about it that just looks slightly unreal (in a good way, don't worry, lol) and I love it! Great shot - congrats on the new baby:)
December 19th, 2011
@pwallis Thanks! I used the photo effect from the Time Machine in my software called box camera. That and a crop is all I did. :0)
December 19th, 2011
Wow, how lucky. Now enjoy the learning.
December 19th, 2011
@pwallis What looks unreal? I'm curious! I shot it with the new lens. :0)
December 19th, 2011
Lovin' the new zoom! What a cutie! FAV!
December 19th, 2011
Ooh, awesome shot. The branches almost look like bokeh. Happy shooting with the new lens.
December 19th, 2011
I don't know if I can explain it properly, but something about the detail and crispness of the delicate surroundings (especially those leaves in the top left corner) have an almost, I don't know, HDR look to them? I can't really explain it, but I really like it.
December 19th, 2011
@pwallis LOL! Just a happy accident! It's going to take me awhile to learn the new lens! :0)
December 19th, 2011
Lovely B&W shot :)
December 19th, 2011
Wonderful shot
December 19th, 2011
He looks incredibly alert Carolyn - I'm sure he'll be able to point you in the direction of the birdies. What a beautiful companion.
December 19th, 2011
these shots are just fabulous Carolyn!!
December 19th, 2011
Lovely in monochrome. You'll just have to get that tripod now to keep your camera steady! The wish list goes on and on ....
December 19th, 2011

December 19th, 2011
Cute!
December 19th, 2011
to take pictures of birds is the most difficult task for a photographer. i know, i am trying since years....wonderful cat picture anyway!
December 19th, 2011
another great photo! You certainly have a knack. I have years worth of cat photos, but only 2 or 3 that I'd consider frame-able...and you do it daily!!
December 19th, 2011
gorgeous, who needs birds when you have cats in your trees! my long lens is really heavy as well, you get used to it!
December 19th, 2011
Great pic of Buddy! Lovely detail :) I like his balancing skills too.
December 19th, 2011

December 19th, 2011
I love this picture in black and white. I'm not sure using a cat to find birds is a great idea but the cat picture is cool. LOL
December 19th, 2011
nice compostion
December 19th, 2011
Yeah on the new lens! I wonder if a tripod would help on the heavyness. I have the same problem. I just can't hold it still enough! Have fun!!
