A new winter visitor

I love shooting new birds! This is my first Purple Finch. As you can tell, it's not purple. His Latin name is carpodacus purpurcus. Purpurcus means crimson or other reddish color. My bird book uses the color word raspberry.

Purple Finches visit Tennessee from October to April.

I only saw this one male. If the female was with him, she was hidden amongst the branches.
Just perfect! Beautiful bird and great composition! Great clarity and detail! Huge Fav!

Oh, I wish we had birds other than crows and hawks in our neighborhood. Not really exciting. Besides, the crows are LOUD. This guy is gorgeous.

Great capture. Such a pretty and colorful little bird. The females are usually more dull. I use an online guide (allaboutbirds.org). It's a great site and it's free. This is a fav for me.
