This was an interesting experience. I saw the baby Mockingbird first. I was taking pics and it started raising its wings and chirping. The next thing I saw in the viewfinder was mama bird with something red in her mouth. She was feeding the baby a wild strawberry. I saw her pick one. It was so cool!
There was a lot going through my mind, while getting these shots. I kept thinking about MaryBeth, another 365er, getting attacked by a mockingbird. I was thinking it was going to hurt, LOL! I also was thinking I was glad the cats weren't around. I tried to stay as still as I could and not make any sudden movements. She never flew at me, but she did keep an eye on me. :0)
Thank you for your kind comments on yesterday's butterfly pic!
Well done with this beautiful shot. I love the red of the strawberry and the flare of the baby's wing feathers. Such a sweet moment to catch. Definite fav.
CAROLYN!!!! This picture should be in National Geographic! I can't believe you were able to SEE this and much less, be able to take a picture of it! DAMN GIRL! Forgive my unladylike enthusiasm but I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'M JEALOUS! (So, you know, and it's obvious, I'm not the cool and collected type. Can you tell? HAHA!) Clickin FAV right now. :)
Totally awesome shot....amazing you were at the right place at the right time. Mockingbirds are my favorite bird and in our neighborhood are the most protective of their nests. I'd love to hear your friends story of being attacked by a mockingbird. I've seen them attack hawks, cats, vultures and squirrels but never people or dogs.....yet! This one is a fav.
A precious experience...i always find it amazing and touching the way the stray dogs in my workplace care for their babies and the hardship they go through to protect them. And I always feel a bit bereft for the mothers when their babies are stolen.
Wow! What a great capture. Lucky you. I've not seen any mockingbird until they are the flash of gray I see every now and then chasing other birds from my feeders. I remember as a kid in Mississippi who the mockingbirds were always chasing cats.
