Colors underneath

It amazes me how different butterflies look open or closed. This is another Variegated Fritillary. It looks very different than the one I posted Tuesday that was open.

I feel conflicted when I use insect repellent, before I go outside to look for insects to photograph. :0)

Yes, it's interesting how different both sides can look. We have one that looks like a dead leaf when the wings are closed but is beautifully-patterned on the other side. The lovely Black Jezebel that I sometimes post is just plain white on the underside and not remarkable at all. This one of yours is pretty on both sides.

Beautiful shot, I can see its wings so clearly! Fabulous colors. 8) (I don't have the habit of using insect repellent, so I end up getting eaten by the mosquitoes, haha.)

I love the butterfly! Also your comment about wearing repellent. I don't wear any...I was going to start as my legs get chewed up sometimes........but then i may drive off my bugs i want to shoot!
